Indiana man who torched Mosque claims ‘FOX News riled him up’

Looks like all that Islamophobic propaganda on FOX News and in the movies is really paying off. Rupert Murdoch must be busy congratulating himself.

An Indiana man who pleaded guilty to setting fire to a mosque in Ohio told the judge that, prior to the arson, he had been “riled up” watching Fox News . . .

It was reported that he attempted to burn down the mosque in retaliation for attacks on U.S. embassies in the Middle East and for Muslims getting a “free pass” in the U.S. While being booked in jail, Linn reportedly said, “F**k those Muslims.”

Nice.

Clearly, Bush and Cheney, et al had it all wrong. It’s not “they who hate us,” but the other way around.

In court on Wednesday, Linn plead guilty to the arson charge. He said that he had gotten “riled up” watching Fox News, according to the Sentinel-Tribune, and drank 45 beers in seven hours before heading to the mosque. Linn started a fire in the prayer room, northwestohio.com reported.

45 beers! Holy cow. He’s lucky he’s facing only 20 years in prison and not his own funeral, from alcohol poisoning.

“Every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans,” he said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. When asked whether he thinks all Muslims are terrorists, Linn reportedly responded, “I’d say most of them are.”

[W]hen Judge [Jack] Zouhary asked him “Do you know any Muslims or do you know what Islam is?’” a member of the mosque told WNWO after the hearing “[he] said, ‘No, I only know what I hear on Fox News and what I hear on radio.’”

Not only that, Linn seems to be under the impression that Muslims don’t believe in Jesus, although an entire chapter of the Quran is dedicated to praising the Virgin Mary.

Just more proof that FOX News engages in routine slander, hate speech and incitement to violence against Muslims. Surely, FOX knows the demographics of their viewers and based on their habits, lifestyles, and environment, also knows that viewers have little way of gauging the veracity of news or commentary they hear on that vilest of networks.

Now, this man will serve two decades behind bars because of FOX spews lies, aided and abetted by his own bigotry, ignorance and naiveté. I shudder to think what else awaits Muslims in Islamophobic America.

  2. 45 beers over a seven hour span really isn’t a lot to a hardened drinker folks. When I was a teen, I could drink a case of beer in an evening, never mind a whole seven hours.
